The Common House Boggart & Hobgoblins:

(images from Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide, illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi)

Background:   ❧ A Boggart is a pissed off Brownie.  You may ask, how do you piss a Brownie off? It's honestly pretty easy; Neglecting your chores, failing to leave out food offerings, and deliberate insult are all sure fire ways to turn your helpful house Brownie to a Boggart, quickly.   ❧  Also known as Hobgoblins, Hobthrust, Bogans, or Boggies. These trouble makers take great delight in tormenting those who they once fiercely protected. They have the power to curdle milk, slam doors, lame animals, steal meals, hide household items, and even eat wood. If the change in behavior doesn't put up red flags that the handy helper has switched to a pest, you can identify the change physically as well. Boggarts are covered in dark hair, have long yellow teeth, and a terrible stench. If a house seems haunted it could very well be a Boggart and not a poltergeist. If you are not sure which it could be, listen carefully for muffled laughter. If you hear such, a Boggart is a likely culprit. And the bad news is, as loyal as the Brownie is to the home, a Boggart is next to impossible to get rid of. To the extreme of moving with you to a  new home. So the moral of the story is to treat these faeries with respect and uphold your homely duties.

Boggarts vs. Hobgoblins:

Similarities -

❧  Mischievous, fond of pranks,  annoying, thieving, and causing havoc.

Differences -

❧  Although they are very similar, the Hobgoblin is about three times the size of a Boggart and lives alone in nature. Unlike the Boggart who attaches to a family and home.
